Collection:

Random urine

Container:

Collect urine in a clean, dry container that is free of preservatives.  

Minimum Volume:

4 mL of urine

Storage/Transport:

Delivered to Sample Management within 1 hour of collection.   

Stability:

Refrigerated ≤ 24 hours.

Causes for Rejection:

Specimen contaminated with feces, specimen is less than 4 mL, specimen collected in container with a preservative, specimen received in the lab more than 24 hours after collection, incomplete and/or incorrect sample identification, and improper storage/transport.

Specimen Preparation:

Refrigerate specimen within 1 hour of collection.
